For nature managers, private landowners and estates in the Netherlands.
Dutch nature grants start with clear records
A nature management grant application connects land, management activities and administration. This checklist helps organise documents and prepare questions for the province or an adviser.
Discuss your grant administrationIdentify the relevant funding route
SNL is the provincial framework supporting nature and landscape management. SKNL concerns quality improvements, including investment and land-use conversion. Start by distinguishing recurring management from an improvement project or conversion of agricultural land to nature. See BIJ12 on SNL and BIJ12 on quality improvements.
Write a short description of the proposed work, its purpose and location. This makes a discussion about the appropriate route more specific.
Check boundaries and provincial conditions
The provincial nature management plan sets out boundaries and management types relevant to funding. Its management-type map describes the current situation; its ambition map describes the intended development. Check the version through BIJ12’s explanation of the plan.
- Compare boundaries with your management map.
- Record the management type and relevant year.
- Check the provincial application window, route and conditions.
- Discuss applicable certification or representation requirements.
The province determines the applicable conditions. Consult BIJ12’s SNL implementation guidance when preparing the process.
Separate standard costs, funding and your budget
A standard cost price represents average management costs within the framework. The grant rate is based on it but is a different amount. Actual costs depend on work in your area. Keep standard costs, the applicable rate, your own estimate and expenditure in separate fields. See BIJ12’s rates and standard cost prices.
Record the year and source for each imported figure. Keep contractor quotations separately so a revised price does not silently replace the original budget.
Baan’s SNL management standards and cost settings support this preparation. Connect them with your management budget and annual plan when discussing delivery.
Build an application file people can use
Organise documents by area and application. Retain the map used, management agreements, cost evidence, correspondence and final decision. Keep a short list of missing documents, assigning each a responsible person and next action.
After a decision, connect its obligations with the management plan. Link completed measures and relevant field records to the same file. This is preparation for administration; the scheme and decision determine the requirements for an individual application.
Common questions
Does a mapped management type guarantee funding?
The map is one part of the assessment. Check the applicable scheme, application window and other conditions with the province.
Is a work order sufficient evidence?
That depends on the evidence requested. Keep the instruction, completion record and financial documents together, then check the file against the conditions applying to your application.
